February Employee Spotlight: Karee Adams
February is the month of love and Mayberry Gardens and the residents in House 8 love Karee Adams. Karee has worked at Mayberry Gardens since August. She currently works the 3:30 to 11:30 shift in H8. Karee is from California and lived there all here life. She came to Texas because her best friend Erica convinced her to come down. She packed up her bags and brought her and her daughter down her. One things she discovered she didn’t like quickly about Texas was the bugs and the weather.
Karee has a deep love for the residents she serves. She said that the thing she loves the most about Mayberry Gardens are the residents. “Each is unique and special. Some people fail to realize as they care for them, that they are people just like us with feelings and emotions,” she says.
Since Karee has worked at Mayberry Gardens she has tried to never miss a day. She believes the residents grow used to their caregivers and depend on them. She doesn’t want to disrupt their day by not being at work. Karee was able to develop a relationship with a resident with some special challenges. When she first started working in the home, this resident did not like her and yelled at her. She decided, and told her house manager, that she was going to get this resident to like her. She figured out that because of a physical handicap and because of hearing loss, this resident wasn’t just frustrated with her, she was frustrated with her situation. Once she learned this, she was able to get to know the resident and they have developed an amazing relationship. This resident and their family now tell us often how much they love Karee and how they think she is the best caregiver their family has ever seen!
Karee’s advice to other caregivers is just to listen to you residents, and don’t just listen to what they say, listen to all of them, their expressions, their body language, their words. If you pay attention they will tell you exactly what they need.
Please join with Mayberry Gardens in congratulating Karee Adams for excellence in caregiving and inspiring work performance. Thank you Karee!
