What to Look For in a Residential Senior Care Home
Nobody likes moving. There’s cleaning, packing, more cleaning, and unpacking, a lot of seemingly endless shuffling of belongings. But life changes and sometimes a move is necessary. As we age, eventually we get to a point where we need more help. If you or your loved one needs some help, but don’t need full-time nursing, special assisted living might be the best choice. When choosing where to move, remember that, as a great resident, you deserve a great home. Here are some things you should definitely look for:
- Friendly faces in the office. The office staff serves the interests of the residents. You want somebody that’s happy to do that. If they are super helpful when you come to look at the property and discuss the assistance you need, it’s a good indicator that they’ll also be happy to help later, if you decide to move in.
- Well maintained grounds. You should be happy to go home, and the grounds are the first thing you’ll see when you arrive. If there’s grass, it should look good every day, not just the day it gets mowed. Walking around the grounds should be refreshing as well as safe. Well maintained grounds are a good clue that the home will be well maintained also.
- Happy residents. When you go to visit a potential residence home, you’ll no doubt see seniors who already live there. If most of them look happy, most likely you’ll be happy too. Although needs and tastes do vary from person to person, you should be able to observe good indications that the residents are thriving and enjoying life in their home.
Of course there’s much more to look for during your search. But these clues will get you off to a good start. Contact us to find out more about our special assisted living and memory care residence.
