Luvera Humphrey recently celebrated her 83rd birthday at Mayberry Gardens. Vera is known on our property for her energy, compassion, and dancing! Vera currently is part of our Resident Welcome Committee and serves with understanding as she knows the difficulty of transitioning to assisted living. If you saw Vera at Mayberry Gardens today, you would have no idea that she was not thrilled about moving in when she first came.
Luvera is originally from Meridian, Mississippi. She was born in 1932 to her lovely parents Carrie and Henry. She is the last living person of 4 siblings. Vera remembers living on a farm with her parents and brothers and sisters and as children, contributing to the family’s financial welfare by picking cotton. Later, she earned her four year college degree from Rust College.
Vera was a 2nd grade teacher in Ohio for most of her career but also taught night classes for 6th graders that were in need of additional education in their reading and writing skills. Later, she taught Adult Education classes in Columbus, Ohio.
Luvera served many years as a nurses assistant each Sunday at her Church, Travelers Rest in Ohio. She spent her lifetime giving to others and feels that has to do with her constant energy and being 83 she can brag she has NO aches and NO pains.
Luvera moved to Dallas in 2012 with her only child, daughter Cheryl. Luvera has 2 granddaughters and 4 great grandchildren in Texas! She has now lived at Mayberry Gardens for more than two years and feels it is her home away from home.
We at Mayberry Gardens are happy to celebrate her 83 rd birthday together.
