Safe Activities For The Seniors in Your Life
If you have older loved ones, particularly loved ones who are at risk for serious harm if they fall, it may be a challenge to find things for you to do together. However, sometimes all it takes is a little creativity to have a rewarding experience with the older people in your life, while still avoiding the risks of more active past times.
Safe Activities To Do With Senior Loved Ones
“Safe” is going to be determined based on your particular loved one’s needs. For example, if your mother is getting on in years, but she’s still an active power walker, going to the park or even on a mall walk is likely a fairly safe outing. If your dad hasn’t been the same ever since he broke his hip, though, it might be a good idea to choose something a little more laid back. For example, a matinee show at the movies, or going out to lunch so you can catch each other up on what’s been happening in your lives.
While it’s important to choose safe activities (because mountain biking or downhill skiing just isn’t something your average senior is physically up to doing), it’s also important to make sure those activities are fun and rewarding. If your loved one has always been a big fan of playing chess, then a day in the park with a board might be a relaxing afternoon. If board games have never really been something the senior in your life has enjoyed, though, it’s a good idea to find something that caters more toward their tastes. Art galleries, history museums, concerts, sight-seeing tours… the sky is pretty much the limit. Mostly because sky-diving is another thing seniors should try to avoid.
